These eight carpets produced in Afghanistan reference the "Miracle on Ice"  Olympic hockey game (Lake Placid, NY, 1980). This game marks the last stages of the Cold War and America's seemingly triumphant victory over the Soviets in the sports arena. In fact, the USA's involvement in Afghanistan was only just beginning; what was once covert in 1980 is now overt. The carpets produced by Afghani weavers that documented the war going on around them in pictorial form (tanks, rifles, etc.) have become popular collectables. Miracle literally weaves these narratives together...
